It’s unfair to blame the media because audiences aren’t reading their news stories surrounding conflicts in middle-eastern areas.
What gets exposure and pushed to the top of publishers’ pages is all determined by data and logarithms. The fact is, people don’t engage as much with these stories, they don’t share the post in their social media channels and they don’t trigger discussions among their network. As a result these posts are pushed down into the murky depths of a publiser’s site.
Belam’s post highlights that publishers do cover these issues and it’s actually down to the audience (us) to bring attention to them.
